Debordieu Colony Laundry/Mudroom Design

Happy Friday! Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy today's post! This week features another key room that will welcome a busy, multi-generational family coming and going while vacationing in their new home on the SC coast. Last week's post featured the kitchen cabinet design and in case you missed it you can check it out here. The laundry / mudroom will be the main entrance used by the family and serve as a place for additional storage and cleaning including a washer, dryer, sink and built in pantry. Here is the floorplan showing the overall room layout.

While doing a virtual zoom meeting with the homeowner based in Charlotte, NC, here is the list of what she wanted to be incorporated into the design for the more functional aspect of the room:

  • Front load washer & dryer

  • Miele vacuum storage

  • Ironing Board

  • Step Stool

  • Hanging Rod for laundry

The architect placed the sink under the window in the room with the washer and dryer just beyond that. My job was to design beautiful cabinetry to work with that including the client's wish list. Below is the design for the sink/washer/dryer wall.

The client chose an apron front sink for this space to coordinate with what she will have in her kitchen. The cabinetry will include two drawer banks with a single center door cabinet. I tend to like single door cabinets vs double doors when possible for a higher end look and feel. Arched cabinet feet draw attention to this sunny space and also create an elevated design.

Another fun feature to point out is the washer/dryer shelf that I used in the Wilderness Plantation Project. I thought this was a perfect spot for one of these and added an additional center corbel to help fill in the space between the washer and dryer. The shelf is a perfect way to cover the large gap created with bulky hoses and the just the right size for storing detergent.

Next up... the pantry wall design. This floor to ceiling cabinetry includes a built in pantry with custom interior shelving. You can see my notes for the detailed layout to make sure everything fits and has a home. Can you say ORGANIZATION? Love it!

To the left are two more drawer banks, a hanging laundry rod with corbels and upper cabinets. Because the homeowner is in her words vertically challenged (lol) we included a step stool in the design to reach the upper cabinets. Her fun personality makes up for any height challenges for sure!
